The Children's Author reading day held at the Barnes and Noble Uconn Hartford Bookstore was organized by the store manager, Laurie Bompart. Laurie aims to provide enrichening activities for the children in the local community and to allow local authors to showcase their books.
This event was more than just another opportunity to showcase and sell my books. It was my very first time meeting a child author that writes poems. POETRY!!! YES! You know how much I love poetry.
Christina Jackson is a young confident 10-year-old child author with her own unique style. In her first book "Look At Me, I Can Write Poetry', Christina shows off her different styles of poetry. It is not just another book of poems. What I love the most about her books is that Christina invites her readers to challenge themselves by writing their own poem. She gives careful and easy to follow instructions that will leave you feeling like an expert. In addition to that, there is just enough room for my own creative writing. How cool is that?! I enjoy reading a lot, but I enjoy it, even more, when I can freely write notes without feeling guilty of being destructive.
If you know me well enough, then you know how much I love poems. In fact, the first draft of my first book, Disco Balls of the Universe, was written as a poem. I came to realize my love for poetry in third grade when I entered a poetry contest. Since then, I have written a collection of poems on my own. Well, with that said, you would think I knew more about poems. It was not until I purchased a copy of Christina's book, I realize there are more than five different types of poetry.
I am very happy I met Christina Jackson. If you love poetry and would like to start writing your own poems, I highly recommend you get a copy of her book today.
I would love to give a special thank you to Laurie Bompart and her team at the Barnes & Noble Uconn Hartford Bookstore for hosting such an enlightening event.
I am also very excited to announce that the Disco Balls of the Universe will be available at the Barnes & Noble Uconn Hartford Bookstore. Feel free to stop by and purchase a copy for yourself.
