Read Across America Day was established by the National Education Association in an effort to motivate children to read more. This day is celebrated every year on the school day closest to march 2nd In honor of Dr. Seuss birthday.
This year for Read Across America Day, I was invited to the Riverside Magnet School to present my book, Disco Balls of the Universe. It was more than just a day of reading. It was also character dress up day at the Riverside Magnet School. The children were allowed to dress up in their favorite book characters. As expected, the most popular costume was Dr. Seuss. I was so excited to dress up as my illustrated astronaut character in my book, Disco Balls of the Universe.
I read to an amazingly smart group of kindergartners, first graders, second graders, and third graders. Each child was given a chance to describe their costume and ask questions about Disco Balls of the Universe. They had so many intelligent questions! I was so impressed. I had a lot of fun reading to them. I really hope they enjoyed my book!
I would like to express gratitude to Danielle Cyr, Library/Media Specialist, and Dr. Singh Principal of Riverside Magnet School, and the rest of the Riverside Magnet school team for the opportunity to be a guest reader at the school.
