Fun in the Son

Fun in the Son is a fun community engagement day and gospel festival which aims to bring people together and educate them about Christ.  On August 4th, 2018, I was a guest presenter at Fun in the Son, 6th annual community outreach, and gospel festival. As a guest author, like most of my previous events, I was expected to read my book, Disco Balls of the Universe, sign autographs, and answer a lot of questions. However, the day did not go as expected. Partly because of the heavy rain which delayed the schedule by three hours, followed by an almost unbearable heat. 

The schedule went way off course when I saw the bounce house, face painting, unlimited snow cones, delicious cupcakes, and the live music started playing. The kid in me kicked in! Honestly, it was hard for me to stay focused because of all that was happening. In the afternoon, I enjoyed live performances by gospel artiste such as Eddie James, The Red Letters, Vill E. Wright, Carlene Davis, Glacia Robinson JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise, and Emrand Henry.

I enjoyed meeting new friends and playing around on the football field at Evander Childs Educational Campus Soccer Field in the Bronx, New York. I must say, I am very grateful for my mom.  She understood that even though I am an author at such a young age, I still need to enjoy my childhood, and so she allowed me to enjoy what the day had to offer. Occasionally she would call me to the table to sign signatures, answer questions and take pictures, but most of my day was spent having fun with my new friends and catching up with old friends.
