Save the Youth Outreach Radio Show is a powerful radio ministry led by Pastor Denise Garwood. The ministry is designed to reach out to families with an emphasis on the youth, to mend the brokenhearted and to facilitate their growth through education. Pastor Garwood continues to achieve this mission by inviting motivational speakers as special guests on her radio show every Monday and Friday night. Imani Ariana was as a special guest to share her story as a young author and to motivate other children and youth. On June 22nd, 2018, Imani had her first radio interview. As her mother, I was nervous being on air, Imani spoke confidently to the audience and the callers. “Pastor Garwood was so welcoming. She made me feel very comfortable in her studio. I was moved by her childhood story, that she not have the opportunities I have now. It was a very familiar story because my mother told me the same story about her childhood. It gave me a feeling of appreciation. I will remember these stories in times when I feel overwhelmed," Imani said. When asked about her experience with the callers, she replied, “The callers were so encouraging and inspired by me. They gave me a reason to be very proud of myself. They even purchased my books on and off air." Imani was asked to give young people her advice. Her advice was "Please, please be yourself. Everyone else is taken. Trust God and believe that you can do all things through Christ that strengthens you. The sky is the limit." We appreciate everyone who listened worldwide and really hope you were blessed by the program.
Imani not only poured out words of encouragement to the audience, but she was also given many encouragement to continue her journey as an author and excel beyond the skies. I would love to make special mention and give a big thank you to all the callers: Mother Liz, Estheleen Green-Core, Sister Kayon, Chrismay Evans, Mavis Hyde, Sis Hazel, Missionary Ashley, Sis Lorna, Minister Morgan and others. This was not an ordinary interview. It went beyond the questions, the purchases, and the fun. What I believe to be the most important take away from the interview was the prayer intervention. Minister Morgan offered a powerful prayer for Imani and myself. As a child of God, I believe that wherever there is greatness, the devil finds comfort in destroying and distracting God's children. Therefore, prayer is the foundation of everything we do. We are truly grateful to have been in the studio among prayer warriors.
As Imani's mother, I am usually in the background working. However, this time Pastor Garwood invited me to share my experience, my expertise as a momager, digital marketer, and business coach, with her audience. For me, it was a moment to be open about my experience growing up, and share the reasons I support my daughter as an author and entrepreneur. Growing up, I never had the opportunities that are available now. It was not due to a lack of good parents, rather it was having great parents that lacked financial resources and opportunities. I was very talented as a child and aspired to do so many things, but unfortunately, my family either could not afford or gain access. I made a promise to myself that when I had children, I will do what it takes to make sure they had the voice I never had and they achieved whatever they put their minds to. I am truly grateful that God has given me the strength, the wisdom, the resources and surrounded me with the right people to be able to do so. In a nutshell, I am more than just Imani's mom. I am her accountant, digital marketer, social media strategist, her assistant blogger, and everything else that goes on in her business. I also offer these services professionally. Our relationship with Pastor Garwood did not end in the Morgan's studio. We have gained a partner and a friend.
